This course will provide students with an overview of the nursing profession, beginning with its historical development through contemporary nursing practice. Students will discuss theoretical frameworks, and professional roles and responsibilities. Through classroom instruction, interactive discussions, and experiential learning activities, students will explore the fundamental concepts and principles of nursing. Students will explore the roles of the nurse within an interprofessional practice framework across the healthcare continuum of care.

Health assessment is the foundation of healthcare. This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a comprehensive health history and health assessment across the lifespan with a focus on patient-centered care, considering culture, spirituality, and social determinants of health. Students will explore the nursing process and how to implement clinical judgment while working with an interprofessional team. Students will receive theoretical instruction, hands on practice and clinical simulation to develop the skills and ability of systematic collection of information, using physical examination techniques and health history documentation. Introductory Learning The primary format of this course will be competency based learning with a flipped classroom where students will practice new content in the lab setting.

This course examines the knowledge and skills needed to effectively use informatics tools and technology in many healthcare settings. Students will explore the role of informatics in nursing practice, healthcare delivery systems, clinical decision-making and patient outcomes. This course will combine theoretical instruction and practical applications.

Nursing students will need the skills and ability to successfully transition into professional nursing practice and leadership roles. This course will blend theoretical instruction with practical application and experiential learning. Students will examine professionalism, ethics, leadership theories, delegation, management principles and strategies for effective collaboration within the interdisciplinary healthcare teams, such as conflict management and change management. Students will discuss qualities of successful healthcare providers including resilience and mindfulness, lifelong learning and interprofessional collaboration. Students will apply course learning by completing a quality improvement project in a clinical setting with a focus on evidence-based practice.

This course will introduce many of the basic concepts and skills necessary to manage individuals and populations, throughout the lifespan and across the healthcare continuum. Through a blend of theoretical instruction, case studies and experiential learning activities, students will explore concepts of perfusion, oxygenation, sensory, cognition, hygiene, safety, mobility, tissue integrity, nutrition, fluid and electrolytes, infection, pain and comfort, and teaching and learning. This course will introduce students to the spheres of care across the lifespan with diverse populations, including disease prevention, health promotion and wellness to support physical and mental health; management of chronic disease; regenerative and restorative care for acute and chronic conditions; and end of life care including hospice/palliative care. Students will begin using clinical judgement to guide evidence-based practice while developing the professional skills of a practice-ready nurse. Primary format will be lecture with discussion/case studies.

This course will continue to develop the concepts and skills necessary to manage individuals and populations, throughout the lifespan and across the healthcare continuum. Through a blend of theoretical instruction, case studies and experiential learning activities, students will expand the concepts of cellular regulation, immunity, perfusion, gas exchange, glucose regulation, intercranial regulation, mobility, fluid and electrolytes, oxygenation, pain and comfort, sexuality and reproduction, cognition, mood, addiction, emotion and psychosis. This course will weave the spheres of care across the lifespan with diverse populations, including disease prevention, health promotion and wellness to support physical and mental health; management of chronic disease; regenerative and restorative care for acute and chronic conditions; and end of life care including hospice/palliative care. Students will continue using evidence-based practice to guide clinical judgment while developing the professional skills of a practice ready nurse. Reinforced learning.

This course will reinforce concepts and skills necessary to manage individuals, groups, and populations, throughout the lifespan and across the healthcare continuum with complex health issues. Through a blend of theoretical instruction, case studies and experiential learning activities, students will incorporate advanced concepts of perfusion, oxygenation, elimination, mobility, immunity, cellular regulation, and tissue integrity. This course will continue to integrate the spheres of patient-centered care across the lifespan with diverse populations, including disease prevention, health promotion and wellness to support physical and mental health; management of complex health issues; regenerative and restorative care for acute and chronic conditions; and end of life care including hospice/palliative care. Students will utilize professionalism and evidence based practice to guide clinical judgment while becoming a practice-ready nurse. Mastered learning.

Nursing practice is grounded in evidence-based knowledge generated by research. This course will provide nursing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to critically appraise research evidence, integrate those findings into clinical practice and contribute to the advancement of quality patient-centered care. Theoretical instruction, practical application, and research projects will allow students to explore research methodologies, evidence-based practice guidelines and the role of research in improving patient outcomes. This is a practice course that combines campus-based lab experiences, simulation and providing patient-centered care in clinical settings. Students will implement the concepts learned in prior or concurrent courses to implement clinical judgment in the management of care for individuals. This will be a lab/simulation and experiential learning course. Students will be evaluated on their ability to execute and apply nursing skills and clinical judgement in both academic and clinical settings.

This is a practice course that combines campus-based lab experiences, simulation and providing patient-centered care in clinical settings. Students will implement the concepts learned in prior or concurrent courses to implement clinical judgment in the management of care for individuals. Clinical experiences will focus on planning and implementing patient centered care related to chronic health needs and the specialties of maternal-child and mental health nursing practice. Reinforced learning.

This is a practice course that combines campus-based lab experiences, simulation and providing patient-centered care in clinical settings. Students will implement the concepts learned in prior or concurrent courses to implement clinical judgment in the management of care for individuals with complex health needs. Clinical experiences will focus on planning and implementing patient-centered care for individuals, groups and populations with complex health needs in various settings. Mastered learning.
